Assistant Quality Manager

Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking an Assistant Quality Manager to work out of our Plymouth, MI location.
This person will assist with the overall implementation, maintenance, support, and review of the Quality Systems and departments at all Atlas tube facilities.
Other responsibilities include providing technical assistance to other departments as required, supporting the quality and technical groups of other Zekelman facilities, acting as the company's technical representative on external complaints, and to determine steel grade requirements with suppliers.

Supporting other departments in meeting overall Company objectives.
Responsibilities:
Direct the activities of Quality department salaried and hourly employees Promote and enforce health and safety work practices as required under the OHSA Identify Quality department resource requirements Assist other departments to develop standards and product inspection plans as required Assist with the development and maintenance of steel standards and communicate requirements to potential suppliers Pre-qualify new steel suppliers as required Monitor the performance of steel suppliers Provide technical assistance to Sales and Manufacturing departments Perform failure analysis related to coil and tube failures Prepare reports for management relating to customer, supplier and technical issues Liaison with suppliers and customers to resolve quality problems and foster mutually beneficial relationships Communicate Atlas Quality Policies and goals to all employees Conduct system audits to ensure implementation and adequacy of quality systems Oversee special projects and continuous improvement as required Research, source and procure capital equipment as needed Assist with facilities with lab & equipment maintaining calibrations Ensure inspections are completed as required Review & completed disposition on nonconforming material Maintain and Implement the quality management system including CAR / PAR's Provide training to quality & production personnel Track & report on monthly performance of KPI's Review and approve external claims as required Review data to determine trends and implement actions to improve systems and products Assist other departments in meeting Company objectives Travel as required - up to 50% REQUIRED
Qualifications:
Post Secondary education in materials testing or manufacturing engineering, or quality systems Strong understanding of quality systems and quality management tools Excellent verbal and written communications skills including technical report writing skills Advanced statistical analysis training and experience Must be able to interpret blue prints, drawings, specifications, technical standards and codes Strong computer and SAP skills Extensive knowledge of the end user applications of HSS Minimum of 5 years management preferred Zekelman Industries offers competitive compensation and excellent benefits, including low cost, high quality medical and dental benefits.
